The Long Island Ducks were originally named for the plethora of duck farms that covered Long Island in the first half of the 20th century. The Ducks were one of the most rough and tumble teams in the old Eastern League, backed by a raucous fanbase in Commack, New York, that was known for absuing opposing players and referees both on and off the ice.
